La Savonnerie des Alpilles crafts artisan soap bars using vegetable oils such as olive oil, coconut oil and sunflower oil. We also use palm oil, which is rich in palmitic and oleic acids, and palm kernel oil, which is rich in lauric acid. Both are very gentle on the skin and produce a good lather. Palm oil is well-suited to soap making as it delivers excellent results for a reasonable price. The palm tree also requires very little water and pesticide. Our palm-oil producer is a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), which ensures that palm trees are cultivated in a way that reduces the negative impact on the environment and communities..
To our soap base we add mineral pigments for color, as well as fragrances, essential oils and sometimes flowers such as lavender, thyme, rosemary and rose. All our fragrances are carefully selected with the help of perfumers from Grasse, the capital of perfume.
Our standard soap bar formulas are enriched with shea butter, giving the skin vitamins and hydration. Shea butter enhances the soap, making it softer and nicer to use.
